Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS) is a San Jose-based nonprofit dedicated to building a community free from poverty. Founded in 1964 by Louise Benson as a grassroots effort to help her neighbors, SHCS has grown into a vital Silicon Valley institution. Today, they serve over 40,000 people annually by providing essential services—including food, clothing, and housing assistance—while fostering long-term self-sufficiency through education, leadership development, and advocacy for social justice.
